The Week in Womble aka I wish I have the Power

Helloooooo!

Last weekend I was away in the Cotswolds ad finally got to visit Stratford-Upon-Avon which was charming and a little relacing. Then I have had a mountain of work stuff on and even some more today it’s probably going to be intense for a few weeks so I’m going to try and set some boundaries to do stuff other than stare at a work laptop all day. Hopefully back half of August may be better.

I did finally complete Couch to 5k so nnow two months of consolidation runs to trial before I try either longer runs or getting faster but dead chuffed finally done.

Awards

The Kitschies were a delight to watch award worthy winners yet again and special shout out to The Space Between Worlds by Micaiah Johnson which won the best Novel award – a truly awesome slice of SF.

In other award news we saw both the  World Fantasy Awards and  British Fantasy Awards shortlists announced with again a lovely selection of books to settle into.

Things I listened to

Work hasn’t allowed much podcast brain time so a pass this week

What I’ve Been Watching

We are nearing end of Elementary Season 1 and really enjoying it so far.  I also had a fun Saturday afternoon watching the new He-Man Master of the Universe Revelations a 5 part story on Netflix setting up a new version of the show and it take the bold but smart choice to invest in the wider world and characters putting Skeletor and He-Man to one side as bar thirty to forty year olds most people will not be familiar with the character that much. It’s actually good to make people care about why this strange world needs a He-Man rather than just expect a revamped 1980s simple-plot cartoon with better graphics. Highly entertaining with great voice performances and story plotting.

What Have I been reading?

Black Water Sister by Zen Cho – off to Malaysia for a tale of family, gods, ghosts and revenge

Dog Rose Dirt by Jen Williams – a terrifyingly creepy tale of serial killers that does not make them glamourous just scary

Bending The Willow: Jeremy Brett As Sherlock Holmes by David Stuart Davies – if you loved the 1980s version of the show this will be perfect viewing

Good Neighbours by Sarah Langan – super smart and surprising thriller set in near future NYC suburbs exploring the dark side of life there

I’m finishing Subjective Chaos SF this weekend and then five debuts to read and that’s my shortlists all reviewed. Expect an SF round up soon

What am I Going to Read?

In the near future Hair, Birds, Parables, the World, Shards, Men, Burning, Aliens and an Empire.

And so much more!! Good luck for the future – we will get there. See you in a week!
