The Week In Womble aka Silence is Golden

Helloooooo!

OMG it has been a while – I think to put it bluntly I find talking about a week in lockdown that often looked like the previous one was a bit overbearing. Add in some lovely work restructuring and I’ve had other stuff on my mind as I try to work out what I must work on in the summer. But lockdown is loosening. I’ve now had my second vaccine dose (please remember to take the paracetamol!) so lets this time try to remember it supposed to be weekly eh Womble!

So 8 months later next door has finished the house renovations and can I say it’s so nice not to heard rills and bangs seven days a week! Team meetings and the mute button have been entertaining. The garden however is looking really nice and it’s fun seeing what I planted last autumn now wake up. Being able to see friends and family will be a big plus.

Things I listened to

Pseudopod – a great weekly horror podcast I have spent a few weeks delving into the backlog

What I’ve Been Watching

The Avengers – Trying a little bit more of this old 1960s show and it has started in season 2 to move from gritty spy/crime drama to something weirder – nuns with machine guns for example!

Murder on The Orient Express – Watched the most recent version of this with Kenneth Branagh as Hercule Poirot and preferred this to the 1970s version. Better direction and bit more character acting rather than simply look at the guest cast.

Shadow and Bone – after a ropey first episode I quickly really enjoyed this show for the heist crew known as the Crows and the not at all villainous character known as The Darkling who wears lots of black and broods.

On the to do list – get back to Battlestar Galactica!

What Have I been reading?

I won’t do a giant catch-up but recent reads last week you can look forward to are: -

The Book of Disappearance by Ibtisam Azem – a very smart and emotional look at Palestinians living in Tel Aviv (or as they know it to be Jaffa) – rather brilliant.

Bridge of Souls by Victoria Schwab – the third Cassidy Blake tale set in New Orleans may be the best yet as stakes are raised and also get more personal

Piranesi by Susanna Clark – A puzzle box of a story that is high on construction  which won me in spite of the mechanical nature of the tale

Repo Virtual by Corey J White – I turn attention now to Subjective Chaos Science Fiction and this was really enjoyable

What am I Going to Read?

In the near future Numbers, arms, trials, a shadow and a storm

And so much more!! Good luck for the future – we will get there. See you in a week!
