The Week in Womble aka Oh I can take a break!

Helloooooo!

This was a better week! Trying to have a clear finish time for the office and share the load more meant I had time to actually LEAVE the house for a walk plus plan meals better. I have now actually booked a day off next week and some longer breaks once my projects go over the line. Reading was great and next challenge is more tv! The best news that may also explain me relaxing is that my mum and dad got their first vaccinations! I can feel a little weight off my mind!

Things I listened to

I have nearly finished the mammoth Good St Podcast catch up and then can actually work on other catch-ups!

What I’ve Been Watching

Wandavision – Episode 5 was AMAZING all I can say if you’ve not tried this yet you need to. You really NEED to

Queen’s Gambit – This Netflix show is set in the 50’s and 60’s about a young orphan girl who becomes a genius chess player. Stylish, intelligent and attacks sexism it is rather good and that’s only after two episodes!

Time Team – a quaint UK series about fast archaeology (usually a dig spread over three days) that all episodes are now available on All4. This was an early fave history show when I was growing up and is charming as well as informative.

Plan this week finally back to untamed and also want to try Lupin

What Have I been Reading and Reviewing?

A good week on the blogging front

Riot Baby by Tochi Onyebuchi – my 2020 novella catch up continues with some truly awesome political FSF this will be appearing on award lists I am sure

The Order of the Pure Moon Reflected in Water by Zen Cho – A very different but equally smart and I think politicil tale set in a land based on Malaysian history. Light, flowing and smart

Winter's Orbit by Everina Maxwell – a hugely impressive debut tale mixing character development and space opera in a way that reminds me of early Bujold. Delicious

The Lady From the Black Lagoon: Hollywood Monsters and the Lost Legacy of Milicent Patrick by Mallory O'Meara – a piece of movie history mixed with tales of old Hollywood added in an examination of sexism in the movie industry. This will broaden your mind and make you angry at how people can get removed from the narrative by those men in power.

The Library of the Dead by T L Huchu – a brand new contemporary fantasy series although this is set in a near future dystopian Edinburgh. This is going to be something many people will need to get their hands on. (Reviewing on Monday)

The Last Snow by Stina Jackson (join me for a blog tour on Tuesday for some truly sark scandinanaian noir!

What am I Going to Read?

Bit to finish up which I have read over the week but need to crack down on happily I think I should get to the last chapter over the next week for all of these so next week tempt you with something else

Made To Order – Robots and Revolutions edited by Jonathan Strahan – with stories from Brooke Bolander, Ken Liu, Sarah Pinsker and more looking at our artificial intelligent friends. One of my long standing TBR to clear but so far so good

The Salvage Crew by Yudhanjaya Wijerante – a space salvage mission goes terribly wrong! So far reminding me of Murderbot meets the Martian

Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse – Very much looking getting sucked into this tale of gods, magic and intrigue

And so much more!! Good luck for the future – we will get there. See you in a week!
