Sneak Peek - Mystery of the Midnight Cartographers by Barry Nugent

Hellooo!

Barry Nugent is a great author, quite varied and I really enjoyed their novel Trail of the Cursed Cobras by Barry Nugent which while perfect for young middle grade readers is also for geeks and those of us who grew up in the 80s. There we meet in 1982’s London five young schoolchildren plunged into a world of secret agents, cults and magic. The world was saved by the Holmes-like Ada, the very bright but grieiving Bobby, DJ the kid who always finds (makes) trouble, map reader Tony and would-be-knight Nikki the toughest girl in school. Nugent excelled at giving these children deopth and caught the emotional highs and lows of growing up too.

Now a sequel is on the horizon with Mystery of the Midnight Cartogrpahers!

Initial impressions on the first few chapters - we are in for a lot of fun and also I suspect some heartbreak. The team now have a mentor in the mysterious but kind figure of Lucas Carnaby but his methods are unusual to say the least but he sems clear this group will face bigger trouble very soon.

I also think Bobby is still going to be hurt from the tragic loss of his mother and magic is always tempting….

I can’t say any more but I also beleive we may have a sassy, scarf-wearing talking hamster to meet!

Now enjoy the cover and let’s eagerly await more to come later this year when the book launches!
