Hello 2023! New Year New Challenges

Happy New Year!

My favourite day of the year - the re-set, the blank page and that feeling of a fresh 12 months to come where anything can happen. Most of the Xmas decorations come down, the house is cleaned and I ponder what to do next

Every year I like to set some blog challenges for myself on reading.

1 - Reduce the TBR….a classic for all bloggers but in this case holding myself to

  • Do my own #TidyTheTBR

  • Read at least one TBR book a week and this year explore what lurks in my e-reader

  • I have this couple of shelves of series I’ve really fallen behind on. This year I give myself permission to read these books and in one case authors who I’ve been reading for years and slightly halted progress!

Lets see if that works!

2 - More Short Fiction - read at least 26 anthologies this year I only read 20

3 - Read More Diversely - keep up my aim to read one book by an author of colour a week but also to read a little outside the UK/US bloc I tend to focus on. While I did read 54 last year my overall percentage was lower; I should do better.

4 Newsletter - aim for one every three weeks is the plan and who knows what will happen next in social media!

5 - Re-start the Octavia E Butler Readalong and Discworld Reads - definitely I want these moving and won’t start my next readlong until the last Butlers are read.

6 - Review ARCs by Release Dates AND catch up - giving myself until June to get my lists in a sensible place. Done better last few months but I have annoyingly got a few I really should make more time for. I’m cutting back on SCKA (but not completely as I have too much fun) to help do this and not doing any Hugo’s this year too!

7 - Read one short story magazine or anthology/collection a week

That should keep me out of trouble!

What are your challenges for the year ahead?
